STURGIS — Norma Jean Swain, 78, Sturgis, died Friday, Aug. 19, 2011, at Sturgis Regional Senior Care.

Norma Jean was born Nov. 30, 1932, to Chester and Agnes (Meyer) Swain. This began the 68-year span of loving devotion and sacrifice of her mother for a daughter whom she cared for until 1999 when Norma Jean moved to the Massa Unit of Sturgis Senior Health Care Center.

She is survived by aunt, Ruth Sheen of Billings, Mont.; cousins, Duane (Mary Ellen) Hoover of Newberry Park, Calif., Chris P. Doran of O'Fallon, Ill., Anthony J. McNeill of Livingston, Mont., Mary Katherine (Bob) Garness of Rapid City, and Harriet Young of Rapid City; second cousins, Carrie Hoover and Doug Hoover, both of California, Ken (Jane) Garness of Belle Fourche, Alan (Norma) Garness, Rapid City, Randy Garness Rita (Harold) Cole, and Lori Lewis, all of Rapid City, Jimmy McNeill of Phoenix, Scott McNeill of Livingston, Mont., Anthony McNeill of Denver, Michelle McNeill of Alaska, Cheryl Snyder of Colorado Springs, Colo., Susan Kidd of Phoenix, and Patrick Doran of O'Fallon, Ill.

Norma Jean was preceded in death by her father, Chester Swain; mother and stepfather, Agnes and John Mayer; aunts, Mary McNeill, Theresa Doran, Leona Hudson and Regina Meyer; uncle, Otto "Bud" Meyer; cousins, Daniel P. McNeill, Patricia Yanzick, and Gordon Hoover; and second cousins, Carol Anderson and Michael Yanzick.

Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 26, with a rosary service at 7 p.m., at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Sturgis with Father Arnold Kari officiating. Burial will follow at St. Aloysius Cemetery in Sturgis.

A memorial has been established to the St. Aloysius Cemetery in Sturgis.
