Our beloved "Buddy" passed away at home in Jamul, California on Nov. 13, 2010.

Buddy was born to Burness and Martha Burns of Minden in the midst of the Great Depression on Jan. 2, 1932. As a boy, Buddy worked alongside his family as tenant farmers in the cotton fields. Following graduation from Minden High School, he joined the Navy where he served as an aircraft navigator aboard the U.S.S. Boxer during the Korean War. A gifted athlete, Buddy played baseball for the Navy and the semi-pro Minden Redbirds.

After the war, Buddy received a degree in electrical engineering from Louisiana State University. A career in aerospace brought him to San Diego, where he distinguished himself as a Program Manager on the pioneering Atlas rocket program at General Dynamics. He also became a licensed gerneral contractor.

People sought Buddy out for his common sense and practical advice. He enjoyed playing golf, camping in the Sierras, and watching a good ballgame. Most of all, he enjoyed going down to the harbor for lunch on Fridays with his wife of 55 years, Suzanne.

Buddy is survived by his wife; his sons, Wes, Frank and Jim; his sister, Bonnie; and grandchildren, Savannah, Breauna and Haylee.

He will be dearly missed for his warmth, compassion and wit. A private memorial service will be held at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in Point Loma, California.

======

During his years at MHS he was known only as Buddy Burns. He played football
for the Minden Crimson Tide in 1949 and 1950, basketball 4947 - 1950 and was in
the 4-H Club. He was voted cutest boy in 1950.

He was married to Suzanne Roberts, Class of 1953.
