MARION, ILL. —
Edward B. Mitchell, 80, Marion, passed away at 4:15 p.m. on Friday, March 4, 2011, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Marion.
According to Edward's wishes, his body will be cremated and there will be no services. Blue Funeral Home in Marion is helping the family with arrangements.
Edward was born on Feb. 26, 1931, in Pope County to Lawson and Myrtle Irene (Morse) Mitchell. He married Barbara Lucas on Feb. 4, 1951, in Saline County. She survives.
He is survived by his loving wife; children, Eddie and Carol Mitchell, Vicki and Wayne Morgan, Dennis and Leann Mitchell, Jerry and Jeri Mitchell, all of Marion and Jan and Steve McMichael of Richmond, Va.; 20 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy "Dot" Shaw of Danville and Leatta and Edgar Price of Harrisburg; and several nieces and nephews.
Edward was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Debra K. McCombs; two infant sons; and a sister, Bernice Barnes.
Edward loved his dog Max and raising his chickens. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having been stationed in Germany. He was a retired carpenter, having worked in the construction field. Edward was a deacon at the Davis Prairie Baptist Church and enjoyed the Testament of the Lord. He was a loving husband and father and will be missed by all who knew him.
