SHALVIS, Dane M., 60, of Avella, died at 10:08 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 21, 2011, in Weirton Medical Center.
He was born July 10, 1951, in Washington, son of the late Frank and Geraldine Elizabeth Pizer Shalvis.
Mr. Shalvis was a 1969 graduate of Avella High School and served in the United States Army during Vietnam. He was employed by RG Steel, formerly Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel, for 22 years. Mr. Shalvis was a member of the Fourth Presbyterian Church of Washington, Bert C. Siders American Legion Post 643 of Avella. He was a Past Master of the Richard Vaux Masonic Lodge No. 454 of Burgettstown. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and family and enjoyed cooking out. On Feb. 24, 1978, he married Cheryl Rohr, who survives.
Also surviving Mr. Shalvis are one son, Chris Cecchini of Wellsburg, W.Va.; a daughter, Erika Cecchini of Wellsburg, W.Va.; two grandchildren, Sophia and Antonio Cecchini; a sister Linda L. Shalvis of Washington; three brothers, Thomas (Donna) Shalvis of Wellsburg, W.Va., Ronald (Peggy) Shalvis of Aliquippa and his twin brother Dean Shalvis of Avella; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great nephews.
Preceding him in death is a son, Jason Frank Shalvis.
Friends received 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 24 and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 25 in Jerome A. Stefkovich Funeral Home, Inc., 18 Campbell St., Avella, PA 15312, where services are 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 26, with Pastor Alice Curry officiating. Burial in Independence Cemetery, Avella. Full military honors will be accorded graveside by Bert C. Siders American Legion Post 643 of Avella. Memorial contributions can be made to the Avella Volunteer Fire Dept. or the Avella Public Library.
