William A. Killingsworth was born about 1812 in Tennessee.
He married Mary Jane Allison, daughter of William P. Allison and Sarah McKinney Allison December 20, 1838 in McMinn County, TN.
In 1840 he was shown in the McMinn County TN census with a wife and one child under 5. This would have been their son Calvin.
Shortly after 1840 he, his wife and children moved to Missouri.
In the 1850 Polk County, MO census he is listed as being 38. His wife Mary J is listed as being 25. With them are the following children: Calvin, Archibald, Mary A., Joseph W., Isaac, and Sarah C. After the 1850 census William A. and Mary Jane had two more children; William born 1852 and Thomas Benton born March 3, 1854. William A. was the father of Thomas Benton so would have been living at least until the middle part of 1853.
One report in a publication called The MacGiolla Dhomhnaighs, or MacGillewneys, or Looneys of the Missouri-Arkansas Border by Donald R. Holliday mentions "Arthur Looney, grandson of John Looney and eighth child of Isaac and Sarah Matthews Looney, in 1853 at age 15 accompanied a company of men from Greene and Polk Counties through the gold rush of the Wichita Mountains. They found no gold; Arthur's most abiding memory of the events was the death of William Killingsworth who stood up to go stand his turn at watching the livestock; when he pulled his rifle after him by the muzzle, the lock caught on a quilt, the rifle discharged, and William was killed."
In his probate papers there was a mention of being a fifth partner in a mining outfit with Gideon Combs Sr., Gideon Combs Jr., Albert Combs, and Isaac Killingsworth. His probate begins in 1854 and lasts until 1857. There is no mention of a death date, or place of death or a middle name, only the initial A.
After probate was complete Mary Jane moved with all of the children to Walker County, GA to be near her parents William P. and Sarah McKinney Allison.
