Obituary: The Freeman's Journal, 169th Year, Wed. 10 August 1977, Obituary: Miss Madeline Elwood, a native and life long resident of Richfield Springs until 1970, died Monday, Aug. 8 at Oneonta Nursing Home where she had been a patient for two yars.

She was the daughter of Arthur Hyde and Harriet (Losee) Elwood. She was a direct descendant of William and Mary Beardsley, who came from England in 1639 and settled in Stratford, Conn. and whose Beardsley descendants were among the first settlers in Otsego County.

She graduated from Richfield Springs High School. She was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church, Richfield Springs, an active member of its Altar Guild for 45 years, and a teacher in the church Sunday School. She was also active in the Women of St. John's of the Church. She was a charter member of Ganowauges Chapter, DAR and a 65 year member holding many chapter offices 1912 through 1964.

Mrs. Elwood is survived by three nieces, Mrs. Richard M. Shepard of Cooperstown, Mrs. William H. Delavan of Skaneateles and Mrs. Lawrence Stevens of Cresskill, N.J., and a nephew, Arthur H. Elwood of New York City.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 10 at St. John's Episcopal church, Richfield Springs with the Rev. Thomas Brereton, rector officiating.

Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Richfield Springs. There are no calling hours. Arrangements are by the Nulton Funeral Home, Richfield Springs.
