Cecil V. Bledsoe was born on June 7, 1930, to Floyd and Edna Bledsoe, in Marsing, Idaho. He attended grade school through high school in that community.
In 1949 Cecil joined the United States Army and spent six years in Austria and Korea as an Armed Services radio operator. He was awarded several good conduct ribbons and a Bronze Star for "meritorious achievement against an armed enemy."
After being discharged from the army, Cecil married Patricia L. Smith in November of 1956. Three children were born to that union.
In the 1950s and 60s, Cecil operated his own Crest Flying Service in Kent, Wash., where he first met Carmen Bergen Hogan. Cecil and Carmen were married in February of 1972. Cecil later sold the flying school and attended State Meat Inspection School, becoming a State Meat Inspector.
Some years later the couple moved to Priest River, Idaho, where they purchased a Mom and Pop grocery store with meat processing facilities. Cecil became the meat wrapper for most of the hunters in the area. During this period the couple also purchased a traveling sausage stand and began traveling on the carnival circuit.
The store burned down in 1989. Cecil worked as a carpenter for a time and then attended Federal Meat InspectionSchool. He worked as a Federal Meat Inspector in plants ranging from Walula, Wash., to Marysville, Calif.; from Reno, Nev., to Burley, Idaho. He retired in 1996 and moved back to Marsing. There, Cecil reestablished his childhood relationship with the Marsing Church of the Nazarene, assuming various roles, including many years of service on the church board.
Following a heart attack in 2002 the couple moved to Nampa, but Cecil continued his involvement with his church, taking the lead in many repair and reconstruction efforts.
Cecil passed away on June 16, 2010, just nine days after his eightieth birthday. He was preceded in death by his parents and four siblings, Juanita Travis, Harold Bledsoe, Pauline Adamson, and Frieda Miller.
He is survived by his wife, Carmen, of Nampa; one brother, Clifford Bledsoe of Horseshoe Bend; one sister, Irene Martin of Caldwell; his three children - Dennis Bledsoe of Thornton, Colo.; Brett Bledsoe of Plentywood, Mont.; and Brenda Hymos of Caldwell; four step-children - Charlene Bergen Snyder of Valley, Wash.; Cindi Bergen of Boise; Curt Bergen of Dillon, Mont.; and Celeste Frances of Phoenix, Ariz.; ten grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service in honor of Cecil's life will be held at the Marsing Church of the Nazarene, 12 Second Avenue West, in Marsing, on Wednesday morning, June 23, at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery in Boise at 1:30 p.m.. Flowers may be sent or memorial gifts may be made to the Marsing Church of the Nazarene.
