Alpine skier, director, producer. He won the Alta Snow Cup in Sun Valley, Idaho, when he was only 14 and was the dominant American alpine skier in the 1940's. He was a member of the U.S. Olympic ski team in 1948 and was U.S. Olympic ski team captain in 1952. He was also a veteran, serving honorably in the Navy during World War II, and in the Korean War. After his skiing career ended, he moved to Los Angeles and went into the film and television business, working as a producer, production manager, director and assistant director on many prominent films, including "The Great Escape" (1963) and "Bonnie and Clyde" (1967), for which he served as assistant director. In 1969, he was elected to the U.S. National Ski Hall of Fame.
