Aase Carlson on a farm east of Leland, Winnebago ,county, Iowa. She had lived in this vicinity all her 1ife. She was baptized and confirmed by Rev. I. M. Dahl of the Winnebago Lutheran Church. On Octoher 18, 1188, she was united in marriage to Peter E. Branstad, and to this union eleven children were born, four daughters and seven sons. Mrs. Branstad and her husband had the unique distinction of having been married fifty-four years. In October 1938 the Branstads celebratedtheir golden wedding anniversary.
She is survived by her husband, Peter E. Branstad, four daughters and four sons: Edith (Mrs. Marion Huglen) Mabel (Mrs.William Groath), of Leland; Mina(Mrs. Paul Kloster) of Forest City; Hazel(Mrs. H. C. Anderson) of Ashby, Minnesota; Elmer T. of Lake Mills; Albert D. and Palmer B. of Leland; and William T. of Omglewood, California, where he is stationed with the United States armed forces. She also leaves twelve grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Children preceding her in death were: Palmer, who died in infancy; William, at the age of four; and Melvin LeRoy at the age of forty. Mrs. Branstad is the last of a pioneer family of nine children.
Funeral services were held at 1:3O at her home and at 2 o'clock from the Lutheran church in Leland Wednesday afternoon. The service was conducted by Rev. Arthur Feroe. Rev. H. F. Huseth sang a Norwegian hymn and brought a greeting. Raymond Branstad, a grandson of the dceased, a senior at Concordia theological seminary in St. Louis, Missouri, sang an English and a Norwegian hymn and spoke on behalf of the family. Six nephews of the deceased: Clarence Carlson, Thomas 0. Carlson, T. C. Carlson, Oscar Ambroson, Charlie Halvorson, and Oscar Charlson, acted as pallbearers. Contributions to the various Christian organization in her memory amounted to $67.75. Burial was made in the Forest Home cemetery at Leland.
