Mrs. Maria Blue Walker, 85, died early Sunday at the Moore County hospital, where she had been ill for two weeks following a long period of declining health.
Services were held for her at the Powell Funeral chapel Monday at 2 p. m., conducted by Rev. Tucker G. Humphries, pastor of the Church of Wide Fellowship. Burial was to take place this afternoon (Friday) in the family plot at North Gage, N. Y., following a funeral service at the Presbyterian church there, of which she had been a member
all her life.
She was born March 20, 1862, at North Gage, daughter of the late Col. Malcolm A. and Mrs. Maria Heatherington Blue, and was married to John K. Walker at North Gage in 1882. They moved to Southern Pines in 1919 and became actively identified with the community life, with a wide circle of friends. Mr. Walker died in 1936.
Though she never moved her membership from the North Gage church, Mrs. Walker was active in various church activities here, especially in the Church of Wide Fellowship. She was a member of the Southern Pines Library association and served for many years as its treasurer.
Surviving are one brother, A. Grant Blue, of Poland, NY; several nieces and nephews.
