MR. S. S. BRADFORD
Passed Away Suddenly at Emmerton, Where He Was Spending the Summer--Funeral Here Tuesday at 11 A. M.


Mr. Sidney S. Bradford, Sr., died suddenly Sunday morning at 9 o'clock of heart disease at Emmerton, Richmond county, where he was spending some time with Mr. B. B. Griffith, a relative. Mr. Bradford had been in poor health for many months but had been apparently getting better when he was taken suddenly ill Saturday. He was 68 years of age and a widower.

Mr. Bradford was a native of Norfolk, and moved to Fredericksburg many years ago to make his home. He was interested in various enterprises and was a popular and valuable citizen. He erected the building on the corner of Commerce and Princess Anne streets, which still bears the name of the Bradford Building. Mr. Bradford retired from active business pursuits a few years ago on account of his health and has been spending the summers at Emmerton. He was a great sportsman and was especially fond of angling.

Mrs. A. H. Wallace, of this city, Mr. and Mrs. S. S. Bradford, Jr., of Richmond, and Mr. Spottswood Hall, of Norfolk, motored to Emmerton Sunday after receiving word of Mr. Bradford's illness, but arrived after he had passed away.

His remains were brought to Fredericksburg Monday afternoon by automobile hearse and were taken to the residence of Mr. and Mrs. A. Hansford Wallace on Prince Edward street.

Mr. Bradford was a member of St. George's Episcopal church, of this city. He was also a member of several fraternal organizations and at one time served as a member of the City Council, of Fredericksburg.

Surviving him are one son, Mr. Sidney S. Bradford, Jr., of Richmond, and one brother, Mr. Edmund Bradford, of Norfolk.

Funeral services will take place on Tuesday morning at 11 o'clock from St. George's church. Interment will be made by the side of his wife in the family lot in City Cemetery.

Rev. J. J. Lanier, rector of St. George's will conduct the services.

The pallbearers: Messrs. Fred Robinson, of Fall Hill; J. F. Forbes, Wm. Bernard (?), Henry D. Williams, Wistar W. Braxton, E. M. Young, C. O'Connor Goolrick, George W. Shepherd.
