Grace M. Thiele passed away quietly on Friday, July 29, 2011, after a sudden illness.

She was born at home on Aug. 9, 1924, to Harold and Lois (Hawn) Churchill in Rock Elm, Wis. On July 31, 1947, in Black River Falls, Wis., she married the love of her life, James R. Thiele. They were married for over 60 years before Jim passed away on April 16, 2008.

Grace was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church in Boscobel, Wis., and participated in many of the church organizations. She especially enjoyed her time as a Sunday school teacher. Grace taught for 22 years at the Boscobel Elementary School and knew all of her "kids" and their families. She enjoyed many activities after retirement including reading, bowling, golf, traveling, and was an especially avid card player.

She is survived by two sons, Steven (Judy) of Madison, Wis., and Patrick (Jane) of Stillwater, Minn.; two granddaughters, Joanna (Anthony) Curry of Edina, Minn., Melissa (Eric) Sonnenberg of Green Bay, Wis.; one grandson, Justin of Los Angeles, Calif.; four great-grandchildren, Tate, Grace, Cathleen, and Nora; two brothers, Donald Churchill of Menomonie, Wis., and George (Marlys) Churchill of Rock Elm; two sisters-in-law, Lucille Resch, Menasha, Wis., Joanne Loomis, St. Anthony, Minn.; as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. Grace also leaves behind her dear friends Georgia, Pat, Darlene, and Cathy.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jim; son Michael; son Harold (at birth); and sister, Jean Hatch.

Visitation will be held from 1:30-3 p.m. Friday, Aug. 5, at the Boscobel United Methodist Church, 104 Buchanan St., Boscobel, WI 53805, with the funeral service at 3 p.m. A private family burial will follow at the Boscobel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, it was Grace's wish that all memorials go to the Boscobel United Methodist Church or to the Boscobel Rescue Squad, Inc., 510 Wisconsin Ave., Boscobel, WI 53805.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Boscobel Rescue Squad for their quick response and would also like to thank the wonderful staff of the ICU and Hospice Units at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse, Wis.
