Born in Oakland, Town of Portage NY,(1850 census states he was born in England but later census state New York) Dailey became the proprietor of the Nunda House and later ran the Coopersville gristmill north of the village of Nunda. He later was one of the first mail rural carriers in the town. He was a Second Lieutenant in the 1st New York Dragoons during the Civil War.
His son, W.Leslie Dailey, was a noted china painter.

In addition to the two children linked below, he and his wife Harriet had another daughter Emma L Dailey, born in 1868.
