Albert W. Elmhurst, 81, retired New York Central railroad engineer who operated locomotives between Syracuse, Oswego and Watertown for many years prior to his retirement, died Tuesday morning at Oswego Hospital of complications developing from a fracture of the hip suffered in a fall January 18. His health had failed before suffering the hip injury, and he had been a patient in a nursing home in this village for a considerable period. He was a native of Hastings, Ont., and a son of the late Modiste and Ellen Leeper Elmhurst of Hastings. He came to the United States from Canada as a young man and lived in Oswego County many years. Surviving are three sons, Robert Elmhurst of Saskatchewan, Albert and Howard Elmhurst of Warren, Pa.; two brothers, Toyne R. Elmhurst of Buffalo and Louis J. Elmhurst of Hastings; and several grandchildren. His wife, the former Miss Anna Purcell, died several years ago. The Rev. Clifford Sullivan, pastor of New Haven Methodist Church, will conduct funeral services at the L. M. Miner Funeral Home in Washington Street, at 3:30 p. m. Thursday. Burial will be in New Haven.
