Sara was born in a sod house on a farm near Dalmeny SK on April 26, 1907.

Sara and John Smetschka were married on January 11, 1938 in Saskatoon and spent the next few years working on various farms.

They had two children, Della and Walter. In 1945 they moved to BC and purchased a small farm just west of Clearbrook. In 1965 they moved into Clearbrook where John passed away in September 1966.

Sara married Jake Lowen in August 1976 and gained a second family of three daughters and their spouses and children. Her step daughter Violet predeceased her and Sara's husband Jake passes away in 1995.

Sara lived on her own in her condo until she suffered an aneurysm in 1996 and eventually transferred to the Menno Hospital where she lived until her passing.

She is survived by her daughter, son, three grandchildren, and two step-daughters.
