IOWA CITY
Thomas A. Akers, 63. of Bloomington. Ill,, and formerly of Iowa City, died Friday in St. Joseph Hospital in Bloomington after a short illness. Services Monday, George L. Gay Funeral Home. Burial: Memory Gardens.
Survivors include his wife, Jeanne; two sons, Thomas of Bloomington, Ill., and Ronald of Atlanta; a sister, Mary Babbitt of Waterloo; and four brothers, Delbert of Waterloo, George of West Liberty, Patrick of Williamsburg and Robert of Sacramento, Calif. Also surviving are tow grandsons, Thomas and William of Bloomington.
Born July 16, 1928, in Morse, the son of Benjamin and Elizabeth Roe Akers, he married Jeanne Prizler Feb. 17, 1950, in Cedar Rapids. He was an over-the-road truck driver for Zenith for many years. Thomas and his wife grew up on farms in the Iowa City area and moved from Iowa City in 1962. He was a member of St. John Methodist Church in Sebring, Fla.
