Nell Alderman of 701 Oaknoll Drive, head of food services at the Iowa Memorial Union for many years, died suddenly Sunday at Oaknoll Retirement Residence. She was 97. Memorial services are pending at Oaknoll, where memorial donations may also be made.
Mrs. Alderman was born Nov. 30, 1888, in Buena Vista County, a daughter of John Thomas and Annie Sweet Newton. She married Grover Alderman on Aug. 13, 1913, in Newell. The couple moved to Iowa City in 1918. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and PEO Chapter KQ.
Survivors include a son, Robert of North Liberty; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Her husband, a son, two sisters and two brothers died earlier.
