Edna May (Strobridge) Mathews, died Friday (May 11, 1990) at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook at the age of 91. She was born April 15, 1899, at Brady, the daughter of George and Nora (Flack) Strobridge.
She grew up in the Haigler and Rolwitz communities and graduated from country school in Dundy County.
She was married April 1, 1917, at the home of the Rev. Lambert, north of Haigler to Roy T. Mathews.
They farmed in Dundy County until moving to Stratton in 1940. They came to McCook in 1948.
They retired in 1962 and moved with their son to El Paso, Texas, in 1965, returning to McCook in 1985.
She was a member of the First Congregational Church in McCook.
Preceding her in death were her parents; two daughters, Edna May Mathews in 1927, and Donna Jean Mathews in 1932; two-great grandchildren; three brothers, Harvey Strobridge, Frank Strobridge and Milton Strobridge; and three sisters, Dora Norgren, Etta Strobridge and Ella Bender.
Survivors include her husband, Roy of McCook; two sons, B. H. "Matt" of McCook and Dallas of Aurora, Colo.; three daughters, Alberta "Bertie" Longnecker of McCook, Eva Faddis of Phoenix, Ariz., and Dora Olbert of Parker, Colo.; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great grandchildren; and one sister, Fern Rogers of Greensburg, Kan.
