Lydia Elizabeth Trine, daughter of Samuel and Mary (Myerly) Trine, was born January 7, 1825 in Maryland. On December 28, 1842 when she was nearly eighteen, she married Jacob Leightner according to an entry she made in her Bible. Jacob was the son of Rebecca (Kieffer) and George Michael Leightner. Lydia and Jacob left Maryland between 1844 and 1846. By 1850 when the Census was taken, Lydia and Jacob lived in Eaton County, Michigan. Possibly the Leightners and Lydia's sister and husband (Rebecca and Peter Heisser) left Maryland together, but her sister Rebecca was in Ohio at the time of the 1850 Census. In 1873 Lydia and Jacob were shown on the Eaton County Atlas. Jacob had 80 acres, section 31 Hamlin Twp. On May 4, 1882 he was in Grayling, Michigan where he was homesteading. For over 25 years Lydia was bearing children. Because they settled in Michigan early, it was to them that her brothers David and Emanuel came and eventually likewise settled in Eaton County, Michigan. On July 25, 1892 Lydia died.
