BANDIT BLANTON - RESCUE DOG

Bandit Blanton's only crime was he "got lost" at age 2 months in Transylvania County, NC. He was the smartest dog in the Animal Shelter! Because it was cold, Bandit was sitting on top of a black lab using her as a rug!

Bandit had the most gentle personality. He rarely if ever barked (except to greet our neighbor, Keith Rogers, who used to "dog sit" him when he was a puppy when the Blantons went out of town). Bandit would "woof" at Keith across the Middlefork Creek whenever he saw him.

The vet once told us that large dogs don't live very long, and said most died at age 7. Bandit made it to 8 years, thanks to his little buddy, Paw Brown Junior, who licked him devotedly every day to try to make him "better." Bandit's arthritis was so bad, he could hardly get up anymore.

We took him to the Outer Banks to see the Ocean. It turned out to be his final trip to the surf! He had such difficulty walking in the sand, he had to sit down to rest frequently. He even "panted" in the air-conditioned truck. He didn't want to eat anything but our cats' food!

Bandit had floppy ears---they never did stand up like a true German Shepherd, even when he was at the Animal Shelter. He had an Akita curly tail, while most German Shepherds have a long, straight one! He was sound asleep in the air-conditioned kitchen when he was found breathing his last 3 breaths. He died peacefully, and we noticed his ears stood STRAIGHT UP!

Our neighbor, Keith, came over to help us bury Bandit, and we appreciated his help and consoling presence. At Bandit's funeral, we said a few words of thanks to the Lord for giving us this special furry friend, who was probably the most gentle, big dog God ever created!

We will never be sorry for adopting Bandit from the Animal Shelter. We gave Bandit an 8-year gift of life, but he gave us back a lifetime of memories and love. That love did not cease on August 27, 2011. We know where he is waiting for us!

Paw Brown, Jr.(AKA Junior), Bandit's little buddy, misses him terribly. Bandit has been a father and mother to Junior for the past year. Junior has looked in every nick and cranny of the house for Bandit, but cannot find him. It breaks our hearts to see Junior so lonely and sad. We are spending more time with Junior to help make the lonliness go away. Neither Junior nor the Blantons will ever forget this magnificent German Shepherd Mix dog, called, Bandit!
