William G. Scholten passed away Friday afternoon, March 18, at the age of 85 years, 1 month and 26 days.

Funeral services were held at the Second Christian Reformed Church, Monday, March 21, with Rev. J. Masselink officiating. Gerrit Rensink of Ashton sang two solos during the services. Interment was in the Orange City Cemetery.

Mr. Scholten, son of Gerhard and Anna Marie Scholten, was born at Zutphen, in the Netherlands, on January 20, 1870.

At the age of one, he came with his parents to America and settled in Chicago, living there until the age of 13 w2hen the family moved to Sioux County and settled near Alton. ON April 25, 1895, he was married to Hendreka Bloemendaal of Alton. They lived on a farm near Alton until December, 1918, when they moved to Orange City.

Mr. Scholten was a charter member of the Second Christian Reformed Church of Orange City, serving int he capacity of elder for several years and treasurer of the Men's Society for many years. He also was a director of the Pioneer Memorial Home.

Surviving are two daughters, Anna and Johanna (Mrs. Lou J. Wielenga) of Ornag eCity; and two sons, Bernard of Hull, and John of Madison, Wisc.; seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife seven weeks ago; one sister, Mrs. Carl Wissink, and four brothers, Bernard, John, Henry and Herman.
