Coronary Fatal To Burt Moore
Burris B. (Burt) Moore, 70, retired Fort Scott postmaster, died at 3:30 p.m. yesterday at his home following a coronary attack. He was painting a house next door when the attack came.
Mr. Moore was the first career postmaster appointed in Fort Scott. He started in the Post Office here in 1934 as a sub-clark. He was made general delivery clerk, and on July 7, 1954, he was named postmaster. He retired because of ill health about a year ago.
He was the son of Jesse B. and Margaret Gillies Moore, born Jan. 15, 1893 in Devon. His parents moved to fort Scott when he was a small child, and they lived at 1008 S. Main, next to his father's grocery store.
He married Leona Taylor, Aug. 27, 1919, in Fort Scott. She survives at the home as does a son, J.B. A daughter, Mrs. Charles (Mary) Elliott, lives in Macon, Mo. There are two grandchildren.
A brother and two sister, all of Fort Scott are Harold Moore, Mrs. Harry (Marion) Warren and Mrs. Bert Sonneman.
Mr. Moore was a World War I veteran, a member of the Southern Baptist Church, the American Legion, and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
The body is at Konantz. Funeral plans are for Saturday, time and place to be announced.
