NALS 5 Sep 1878 p4 c3: Death of John Smith. John B. Smith, or Uncle John, as he was universally known, living near the fair grounds, died at noon today, after an illness of over 25 years. Thirty years ago Uncle John was the leading blacksmith here, but nearly 26 years ago he became afflicted with a rheumatic affection, and ever since the he has been a pensioner upon the books of New Albany Lodge No. 10, I. O. O. F. He was the father of Ben Smith, deceased, who was well known here, and also of several other sons. Uncle John was well liked wherever known. He would have been 80 years of age next month, and is now released from a quarter of a century of suffering. He was a member of Wesley chapel. His wife, good Aunt Hannah, survive him. . .
