Golden Gate Bridge Scene For Suicides
SAN FRANCISCO

Two men and possibly three jumped to their deaths from the Golden Gate Bridge Thursday--one of them while a television crew was filming a documentary on suicides at a different spot on the span.

A fourth man who told authorities he planned to jump was restrained at the rail.

At 11:44am a man known as Karl E Bybee 48 Sacramento, jumped facing the ocean from just north of the south tower above old Fort Pint. His body was recovered in an hour.
A CBS news documentary team was filming background scenes on a different portion of the bridge at the time Bybee plunged to his death.

A second man jumped at 2:05pm from the middle of the Bridge facing San Francisco. His body was recovered--along with still another who apparently leaped to his death during the night. There was no immediate identification of those two victims.

Bridge authorities said a fourth man was restrained at the rail of the span. He told rescuers he planned to take own life. There have been 370 known suicides from the Golden Gate Bridge since it was opened in 1937.
