Kent Steven Backes was the son of Kevin & Sharon Carter Backes; his brothers & sister-in-laws include: Bryan & Michelle Kaad, & Justin & Bobbi Backes, all of Muskogee, OK; his grandfather, Floyd Backes of Fort Gibson, OK; Aunts: Debbie Backes, Dixie Backes, & Sherry Sly, all of Fort Gibson; Janice Carter Rogers of Tulsa; Uncles: Mike Backes, Gary Carter and wife, Jennie, and Ronnie Carter, all of Muskogee, OK; Niece, Aysia Kaad of Muskogee; father & mother-in law, Mike & Glinda Huitt of Fort Gibson, OK.

He was a graduate of Fort Gibson High School and had been in the U.S. Air Force for 4 years; he was promoted to Staff Sergeant upon his death, served in the 393 Bomb Squadron and reassigned to the 509 AMSX, and worked on the B-2 Stealth Bomber. He was deployed to a forward operating location in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was killed in a motorcycle accident in Lamont, MO.

Kent married his high school sweetheart, Alyssa Huitt, in Oct. 1999; no children.
