Chester was the son of John and Mary Albert. At the time of enlistment, he was a married farm laborer from Lower Mt. Bethel Twsp, Northampton, PA. His brother, Eli Albert, also signed up to save the Union with Co. K 153rd PA Vol. Like most soldiers, he got sick and was hospitalized. Unable to return, he was discharged in 1863. He died of heart failure in 1914, at Council Bluffs, Pottawattamie County, Iowa. He was the husband of Susan M. Albert.

"Historical Register of National Homes for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers 1866-1938" shows Chester Albert entered the home in Hot Springs, South Dakota and was discharged a month before he died. He was 73 years old born in Pennsylvania; he was 5'6" tall with dark complexion, blue eyes, and gray hair. His nearest relative is shown as Catherine LaBarr, a sister in Easton, PA. The record shows he enlisted November 10, 1862 at Easton, PA. He served as a private in the 153 PA Inf and was discharged January 4, 1863 because of an illness disability.
The 1905 Iowa census also shows Chester's service in the Civil War in Co. K 153 Penn Infantry with an enlistment date of 1862 and a date of discharge as April (16?) 63. the original document is smudged and/or written over the information between April and 63. He indicated he receives a pension. It also shows he lived in the U.S. for 65 years and in Iowa for 34 years.
Note: Part of Kane township is in Council Bluffs and both are in Pottawattamie County, Iowa.
