Born in Wisconsin in 1845, Lewis B. Beebe was the son of Bela and Sarah (Chapel) Beebe. Lewis grew up as a farmer. On 6 October 1864, Lewis enlisted in Battery G 2nd Illinois Light Artillery. At the time of his enlistment he listed his residence as Caledonia, Illinois and that he was a farmer. He served with the battery through the such battles as Franklin, Spring Hill, and Nashville. He was mustered out with the rest of the battery on 9 September 1865.
Lewis appears to have been married twice. His first wife Sylvia preceded him in death in 1913. At the time of Lewis's death, his death certificate lists his current wife as Ella Love.
Following his military service, Lewis returned to farming for the remainder of his life.
Lewis passed away in the Beloit Hospital. His cause of death was listed as chronic intestinal nephritis and incarcerated hernia on the left side. Secondary cause was listed as chronic heart disease.
