Graveside service for Robert Lincoln "Bro. Bob" Batchelor will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, August 31, 2011, at Bethel Cemetery with the Rev. Bennie Lewis and the Rev. Kent Pate officiating. Mr. Batchelor died August 29, 2011, in Willowbrook Nursing Center in Nacogdoches. Born August 9, 1917, in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, he was the son of Harrison A. and Bessie Irene Skiles Batchelor. A graduate of Penn State, he began his career as a teacher and basketball coach in Canton, Pennsylvania. He and his late wife, Autumn Batchelor, were educators and missionaries for 35 years to Western Samoa, where he supplemented his income as a locksmith. Moving to Nacogdoches in 1987, he was a teacher at Nacogdoches High School and Northwood Academy and worked at the Red Barn Steakhouse. He continued his trade as a locksmith throughout his retirement, working with G&G Lock, until the last year of his life. He was an avid coin collector and remained a loyal alumni of Penn State. A member of Northwood Baptist Church, he was also an ordained minister and respected throughout the community for his vast knowledge of the Bible. In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Freberg; and brother, David Batchelor. Survivors include two nephews, Kurt Batchelor and John Batchelor; and sister-in-law, Bernice Batchelor. Though he had no children, he was loved by numerous family members, friends and acquaintances around the world whose lives he impacted by his teaching of God's word, by his prayers and by his love for the Lord.
