U.S. Congressman. He graduated from Hamilton College, studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1828 and commenced to practice law in Oswego, New York. He was the Oswego County District Attorney, in 1835 and elected as a Democrat to the Twenty-fifth Congress, serving (1837-39). After his term, he resumed the practice of law until his death at age 67.
