Sadortha Marie Spurgan was born in Lafayette, Colorado. She moved with her mother and father to Los Angeles when she was a teen. Seven years older than Lorraine, 13 years older than Maxine, she managed to help raise her two younger sisters while attending school. After attending both UCLA and USC, she became a devoted elementary school teacher in Willowbrook and later at Cimarron Avenue Elementary School. Sadortha was briefly married to Clarence Adams. Prior to World War II she married Chester Vern Horton and they were blessed with two children, Gene Vern Horton and Carol Marie Horton. Her compassion and inspiration served children not only at school but at home until she retired at the age of 62. With all the spare time on her hands, Sadortha became a green thumb devoting her attention to orchids and little four-egged critters.
