Warren T. Morrow Dies Suddenly at Ranch Home
A pall of gloom was cast over this entire community on Wednesday by the announcement of the death of Warren T. Morrow, who died suddenly of heart failure at his ranch home, nine miles from Fort Benton. Mr. Morrow was out with one of the men inspecting the feeding of cattle on the ranch. He was riding a horse and just a moment before his death he made the remark that he was not feeling well and would ride back to the ranch house. Just after the remark he fell from his horse to the ground. As quickly as possible after his fall, which was about ten o'clock, help was summoned. It was just about noon before medical help arrived and it was then determined that death had been almost instantaneous. Owing to the telephone line being grounded it was necessary to go several miles to summon help. Mr. Morrow's death came as a distinct shock to his many friends all over the county as he had not been known to complain of any illness. About two years ago he underwent an operation for appendicitis, but recovered quickly and seemed to be in perfect health. He was in Fort Benton on Tuesday and left town because of the storm to be present to assist in caring for his stock.
Mr. Morrow had always resided in this neighborhood and was known by almost everyone and was held in the highest esteem. The place made vacant by his passing will be a hard one to fill and his death will be mourned by a large circle of friends all over the county.
Warren Thomas Morrow, son of Mr. and Mrs. Malcolm Morrow, was born on the old Morrow homestead on June 4, 1887, and at the time of his death was nearly 41 years of age. He had spent the greater part of his life on this ranch, except for the time he spent in school here and in Helena and Bozeman. He had been engaged in the livestock business for many years and was considered one of the most successful stock men of this section. He was, at the time of his death, manager of the Morrow Land and Livestock company, as well as looking after his private interests.
He was married on Jan. 29, 1913, to Miss Birdie Boyd, at Havre, Mont., and to this union were born six children, all of whom survive him.
His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Malcolm Morrow, were among the pioneer residents of this part of Montana and played a very important part in the development of this section of the state. The father came to Montana in 1863 as a child and was a resident of this county 42 years at the time of his death, which occurred in Nov. 1921, and preceded in death only a couple months by his wife.
For the past eight years Mr. Morrow had spent part of the time in Fort Benton with his family, he having purchased a residence property here in order to give his children the advantage of a good school.
Mr. Morrow was especially fond of his family and everything possible that he could do was done for them. Besides the widow and six children, Bertha, Tom, Marvin, Marion, Betty and Natalie, there are left to mourn his untimely passing four sisters and three brothers, Mrs. J. W. Lenning, Mrs. W. Thorne and L. H. Morrow, of this city; Dewey Morrow, of San Diego, Calif.; Malcolm C. Morrow, of Cascade; Mrs. Guy Winter Baker, of Minneapolis; Mrs. H. S. Whitcomb, of Malta; and numerous other relatives and a host of friends.
The funeral was held from the Episcopal church on Saturday afternoon. Interment was made in Riverside cemetery. The bereaved relatives have the sympathy of the entire community in this their time of sorrow.
