Ada Elizabeth Spidle – 89, Cedarstone Enhanced Care, formerly of Brookfield, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on Monday, December 20, 2010, in Cedarstone Enhanced Care. Born May 31, 1921, in Brookfield, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Carrie (Hamilton) Bates.

Since an early age, Ada attended and later became a member of Brookfield Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for over 50 years and also was church organist for many years. She volunteered on the Brookfield Eastside Cemetery Committee and also with the Canadian Cancer Society from who she received an award from the Lt. Governor at a special ceremony for her years of volunteer service. She served as President of All Around The Circle Senior Club, Brookfield, Women's Missionary Society, Ladies Auxiliary of Brookfield Baptist Church, Resident's Council at Cedarstone and was a member of Order of Eastern Star, Upper Stewiacke Chapter # 48. Many will remember Ada from her years running the Red and White Grocery Store in Brookfield and also for her contributions to The Truro Daily News as a correspondent.

Ada is survived by her daughters, Marilyn (Jerry) Stewart, Brookfield; Carolyn Swallow, Truro; son, Bruce (Mary) Currie, Masstown; grandchildren, Geoffrey (Joanne) Stewart, Brian Stewart, Michael (Leslie) Stewart, Gregory (Marion) Currie, Darrell (Margaret) Currie, Janet (Scott) Geldart, Randy (Kelly) Currie, Tara Power (Paul Treves), Lana Newell; 18 great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her first husband, Hugh Robert Currie; second husband, Murray Joseph Spidle; son, Brian Currie; sisters, Orpha Lindsay, Sadie Matheson, Doris MacKenzie, Joannah Carter; brothers, Reg and Malcolm Bates; sons-in-law, Robert Power, Curtis Swallow.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where Ada's family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, December 21, 2010. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Wednesday, December 22, 2010, in Brookfield Baptist Church, Pastor Eric MacKinnon officiating, assisted by Reverend Frank Locke. Interment in Brookfield Eastside Cemetery. Reception will follow in the church hall. Family flowers only. If so desired, donations in Ada's memory to Brookfield Baptist Church are welcomed.
