Update 1/2012:
Police have charged 17 year old senior, Aketzalia Sanchez-Anaya, of Hendersonville, with failing to report a death and with concealing the birth of a child. Principal Frank Edney described Sanchez-Anaya as a model student with a caring nature, and said the incident with her newborn was "totally out of character" for the young woman. "The picture we have is of a sincere, conscientious student who is focused on academics and cares about other people," he said.
The baby was born prematurely at 32 to 35 weeks at home, weighed four pounds and was 18 inches long. The medical examiner identified inadequate food and fluid intake, dehydration and lack of nourishment as possible causes of death.
