WORLD WAR II VETERAN

William Desouza was born in Hilo, Hawaii on 27 December 1901. He was the eldest son of eleven children born to Virginio and Maria (Duarte) DeSouza.

About 1922 he married Mary Pacanco, in Honolulu, Hawaii. Together they had three Children, Harold Charles Souza, Mary Elenor (Souza) Rorrer, and Herman Gilbert Souza. Mary and William divorced sometime before 1930.

After arriving in California, on 23 September 1942, William enlisted in the United States Army. He was assigned with the Headquarters Detatchment, 1st Engineers Training Group, Repl Training Center, at Fort Belvoir, Virginia. He was Honorably discharged on 25 March 1943, as a Private.

About 1942, in Oakland, California, william met and married Helen May Desouza (Actual maiden name unknown). They had no children and remained married until Williams Death.

On 5 December 1959, William passed away, in Oakland, California of cancer. He was buried in the Golden Gate National Cemetery, in San Bruno, California.
