GARNER
Joe Francis Garner, 74, passed away on Thursday, August 19, 1999 after a long illness. Mr. Garner was born in Burkburnett, Texas and was raised in Aransas Pass, Texas.
Mr. Garner retired from the Exxon Company after 38 years of service. He was a 32nd degree Mason and belonged to the Al Amin Temple. When he was an active member of the Shriners he drove crippled and underprivileged children to the hospital in Houston and Galveston. He was a Scout leader for a great number of years in both Kingsville and Portland. He was an Elder Emeritus and an active member of the First Christian Church in Portland. He will be missed by all of those whose lives he touched.
He is preceded in death by his parents, William Lee Garner and Jessie DeVaughn Garner; one brother, Walton Garner; and two sisters, Gladys Farley and Sybil Wise.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Ruth Duncan Garner; one son, Joe Lee Garner; two daughters, Linda Ragsdale and Patty (Art) Moore, all of Portland; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous honorary grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Louise (John) Maxwell and Pat Blackwell. He was a very devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Visitation will be on Friday, August 20, 1999 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Maxwell P. Dunne Funeral Home in Portland.
The funeral will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 21, 1999 at Maxwell P. Dunne Funeral Home in Portland.
Burial will follow at San Patricio Memorial Gardens in Portland.
