BUTTERNUT RIDGE. Once more the bell has tolled its last sad requiem; once more the friends have paid the last sad rites to the departed. Nor have we the consolation of knowing that it is one who has lived the allotted time, nor yet a child who is spared the struggles of this life; but a middle-aged mother, who leaves behind a group of helpless, motherless children; and all hearts beat in sympathy for the living; and from all this we gather only the consolation that as one "soothed and sustained by an unfaltering trust," 'approaches his grave,' so on the 10th inst., in her 38th year, passed Mrs. Maria Stearns, wife of Gardner Stearns, from death unto life. Mrs. Stearns was an affectionate wife, a loving mother, exemplary neighbor and true Christian, and leaves a large circle of friends to mourn her loss.
