L.D. Brooks, an old resident of the county, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Allen Johnson, in Hamilton county, fourteen miles north of this city, on Thursday evening at 7:40 o’clock. He had been in poor health for some time suffering with cancer of the face.
The funeral services were held on Sunday from the home of the daughter, Mrs. Johnson, conducted by Rev. George Heaps. The remains were brought to this city and services held at the Baptist church at 2:30 o’clock conducted by the Rev. J.W. Coulston, the pastor. The remains were laid to rest in Linwood Park cemetery.
Lorenzo Dow Brooks was born in Indiana, December 19, 1832, and died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Ida Brooks-Johnson, in Hamilton county, Iowa, July 10, 1913. He was married to Amy Armenia Seymour, January 31, 1855. Ten years later, 1865, he came to Boone county, where he lived until he passed away. Seven children were born to them, five sons and two daughters, George D. and Z. Taylor of Boone, Orlando C., of Cody, Nebraska; Max D., of Modesto, California; Ida, now Mrs. Allen Johnson of Hamilton county and Amy, Mrs. Frank Craven of Palo Alto county, and Schuyler C. Brooks, who departed this life August 16, 1887. The wife of the deceased passed away seven years ago.
