A life-long resident of Warwick, she was born in Providence, the daughter of the late Clement V. and Helen A. (Bartlett) Butterworth. While she always worked outside the home, Mrs. Carmichael is most remembered for her volunteer work. She was active in the Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and PTA. She was a long time member and past president of the St. Timothy's Church Women's Club. She had also volunteered at the Trudeau Center, and most recently, had been employed as a Teacher's Assistant at Our Lady of Mercy School, in East Greenwich.
She is survived by four sons, William F. Carmichael and his wife Maria of Mullica Hill, NJ, James A. Carmichael and his wife Monica of Lincoln, Paul V. Carmichael and his wife Joan of Acton, MA, and Peter J. Carmichael and his wife Sharon of Warwick; a brother, Stanley C. Butterworth of Barrington; two sisters, Kathleen Stoeckel of Fort Myers Beach, FL and Lois A. Cerrito of Warwick; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Her funeral was held on Saturday, September 3, from the Barrett & Cotter Funeral Home,Spring Green, Warwick, with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Timothy Church, Warwick. Burial followed in Pawtuxet Memorial Park, Warwick.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to Odyssey Hospice, 2374 Post Road, Suite 206, Warwick, RI 02886.
