Inquest Into The Death Of Gilbert Reinke Is Delayed For Several Days While Search Continues
Sheriff's authorities today were continuing a thorough search for the hit and run driver whose machine struck Gilbert Reinke, Sheboygan county highway employee, as he was fixing a tire on his Chevrolet
sedan along Highway 32 north of Erdman early Thursday morning and inflicted injuries from which the victim died at St. Nicholas hospital shortly after noon the same day.
Although motorcycle officers dispatched from the sheriff's office to visit the scene of the accident and attempt to find clues or witnesses, no tangible evidence which might lead to the identity of the driver of
the automobile was uncovered. The search will be continued, Sheriff Tasche said today.
Inquest Postponed
No inquest into the death will be held for several days while the search is being pressed, Coroner C. N. Sonnenburg said this morning. Mr. Reinke died of a skull fracture, the coroner reported. The body was found on the highway early Thursday morning, possibly several hours after the accident, and brought to St. Nicholas hospital by a passing motorist from Sheboygan. The victim, critically injured with a skull fracture, fractured shoulder and leg, lacerations and possible internal injuries, died without recovering consciousness.
Funeral rites will be held Sunday at 1:30 p. m. from the Ballhorn Funeral Home, and at 2 p. m. from the Ebenezer Second Reformed church, the Rev. E. H. Oppermann officiating. Interment will be made in Town Herman Immanuel cemetery.
Mr. Reinke, a truck driver for the County Highway Commission since 1923, is survived by his mother.
Mrs. Bertha Reinke, and two brothers, Lester and Richard, of this city. Two step-brothers, Oscar and Calvin Franz, also survive. His father preceded him in death eleven months ago.
