A daughter, Thecla, was born on 07 Dec 1856. She was baptized on 08 Dec 1856, and her sponsors were Theodore Schleeper and Susanna Holterman.

Although there is no death record for Thecla, she apparently died when she was very young. She was most likely buried at either St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Meppen, Illinois or St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Brussels, Illinois.

John and Sophie had another daughter, Regina, who was born in 1859. She only lived for 8 months.
