MARGARET CLASSEN

Susana Margaret Classen, 80, formerly of Hoisington, Kan., died Monday, April 26, 1999 in Newport, Rhode Island. She was born, July 10, 1918, in Fort Scott, the daughter of Harry and Marion A. Moore Warren. She married John Ed Classen on June 6, 1941, in Fort Scott. He preceded her in death, April 10, 1998.

She earned her teaching certificate from Kansas State Teacher's College, now known as Pittsburg State University, Pittsburg, Kan., where she was a member of Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority. After receiving her teaching certificate, she taught school at Mound City, Kan., Fulton, Kan., Delphos, Kan., and McCune, Kan. She did substitute teaching in Neodesha, Kan., and Hoisington, Kan. She also worked for many years at the Hoisington National Bank, retiring after 20 years as Head Cashier.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Sujean and Clifford Jeffries, Middletown, Rhode Island; three grandchildren, Laura Marugg, San Diego, Calif., Jennifer Pinnow, Las Cruces, New Mexico, and John Jeffries, Lawrence, Kan.; two great-grandsons, Thomas Marugg and John Marugg; and one sister, Marion Brown, Arkansas City, Kan. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Charles Warren, and one sister, Helen Childs.

The Rev. David Watson will conduct funeral services at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 1, 1999, at the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Centerville Cemetery, near Devon, Kan. The family will receive friends Friday, April 30, 1999 from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m., at the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Williams Fund at the University of Kansas Endowment Fund, and left in care of the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home, 15 W. Wall, P.O. Box 309, Fort Scott, Kan., 66701.


Classen. Pallbearers were Clifford Jeffries, John Jeffries, Harry Warren and Michael Douglas. Music was provided by her granddaughter, Jennifer Pinnow, soloist, her grandson, John Jeffries, soloist, and Nita Payne, pianist. Services were under the direction of the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home.
