Willard Scott Dixon, 64, of Albright (Lenox Community), died Saturday, Feb. 22, 2003, in his home.
The son of the late Jesse H. and Amy Bishop Dixon, he was born Jan. 23, 1939, at Albright.
He was a four-year veteran of the U.S. Air Force and a member of the VFW Aurora/Terra Alta Post 578. For most of his life, he was a well-known coal miner and an avid hunter and fisherman.
Willard is survived by his wife of 39 years, Carol "Mitzy" Lee Bishoff Dixon, of Albright; three sons, Ronald Bishoff and spouse, Terri, of Aurora, Mike Dixon and spouse, Ammie, of Albright, and Jon Dixon and spouse, Tessa, of Albright; five grandchildren, Talinna and Zachary Dixon, Jessica Bishoff, and Adam and Brooke Dixon; six brothers, Warren Dixon and spouse, Joan, of Terra Alta, Ray Dixon and spouse, Betty, of Missouri, Fred Dixon and spouse, Diane, of Ohio, Byrns Dixon and spouse, Anna, and Franklin Dixon and spouse, Evelyn, of Albright, and Dale Dixon, of Wellsburg; four sisters, Nettie Gidley, of Albright, Charlotte Bainbridge and Nada Brown, of Clovis, Calif., and Ila Fullmer and spouse, Guy, of Fresno, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by six brothers, Kenneth and Donald Dixon and four infant brothers.
Friends may call at the Carl L. Spear Funeral Home, Brandonville-Bruceton Mills on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., and Wednesday, Feb. 26, from 11 a.m. until the 1 p.m. services, with the Rev. Randy Sisler officiating. Military services will be conducted by members of the Preston County VFW posts. Burial will be in the Lenox Memorial (Lutheran) Cemetery, Albright.
