Husband of Caroline Hudson and father to Charlotte, both of whom are buried in the family plot.

After doing a medium amount of searching the 1900 Federal Census (when he would have been 12) I cannot say emphatically where Hugh was then.

In the 1900 Federal Census, the "best match" for him finds him living at 527 Indiana Ave, Jeffersonville Indiana, as an adopted son of Kate Sylvester (with Kate listed as single, working as a seamstress, and being born August 1853 in Indiana). I assume Kate was his aunt, possibly giving us a clue as to his mother's maiden name. He is listed as "at school". Hugh's date of birth in this census of Nov 1887 is a good match but it lists Kentucky as his birth state, as well as his parent's (all other census data lists Indiana as his birth state). If his parents died when he was very young, he could have been told that he was born in Indiana.

This address is just over the border of Kentucky into Indiana, across the Ohio River, with Louisville on the Kentucky side of the river - thus raising the possibility of Hugh being born in Louisville Kentucky. I assume he kept his parent's last name as he did not take Kate's last name of Sylvester.

In the 1910 Federal Census we find Hugh (now 22) living at 164 West 105th St, Manhattan NY where he is a lodger in the house of Lillie E Lent. His occupation is listed as organist.

Hugh's 1917 WW I reg card lists an address of 520 West 114th St, (Manhattan), NY. This is where we first pick up his date of birth (which is the same on his WW II reg card and his SSDI) and that he was born in Jeffersonville, Indiana. He lists a wife and a child and gives "Dependent family" as an exemption for being drafted.

In the 1920 Federal Census we find Hugh married to Caroline and they are living at 328 St Paul St, Brookline Massachusetts. Hugh is working as an organist and Caroline is working as a singer. Their daughter Charlotte is listed age 3 years 8 mos, making her birth about May 1916, in New York.

In the 1930 Federal Census we find Hugh and Caroline living at 921 East 87th St, Cleveland Ohio. This is where we find that Hugh was married at age 24 (about 1911). Hugh is working as an organist at a Christian Science Church. Their daughter Charlotte is also listed here, age 14.

Hugh's 1942 WW II reg card lists an address of 40 Fenway, Boston and lists Caroline as his contact person at the same address. He is working for The First Church of Christian Science with an address of 910 Boylston St, Chestnut Hill (which is part of Newton) Massachusetts. His description is 5 feet 10 inches, 169 pounds, blue eyes, blonde hair, light complexion.

The Soc Sec Death Index gives us a death date of August 1967 with a last known address of Flushing New York.

My assumption is that they were living in Hampton Falls NH when Caroline passed away and that since they bought a plot there, that is why Hugh is buried here also despite him last living in New York.
