LACON - Doris I. Fennell, 88, of Lacon passed away at 12:52 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 5, 2011, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
She was born on Oct. 2, 1922, in Saratoga Township to the late Allan E. and Gladys (Finley) Goodale. She married John G. "Jerry" Fennell on Aug. 20, 1941, in Camp Grove. Jerry preceded her in death on Nov. 20, 1996.
She is survived by her sons, Jack Fennell of Dunlap, Father Pat Fennell of Peru, Gordon Fennell of Weaver, Ala., Phillip Fennell of Lacon, Francis (Cathy) Fennell of Warren, Ill., Tim (Nancy) Fennell of Normal, Mark (Ann) Fennell of Moline and Doug (Jackie) Fennell of Chillicothe; daughters, Michele Down of Bedford, Pa., Monica (Tom) Metz of Rome, Ill., Martha (Gary) Kirkman of Orland Park, Mary (James) Beam of Edwards and Celestia (Gary) Down of Wyoming, Ill.; daughters-in-law, Corky Hagemann Fennell of Lisle, Ill., and Tammy Wunder Fennell of Chillicothe; 29 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Steven and Mathew; three sisters, Eleanor McCusky, Vera Burger and Joyce Codebo; three grandchildren; and one daughter-in-law, Joyce Fennell.
Doris was a loving wife and mother and was devoted to her children and grandchildren.
She was the president of the Altar and Rosary Society for 21 years and was a trustee of the parish.
Doris taught CCD at the Camp Grove Parish, volunteered at St. Joseph's Nursing Home and was a Brownie and Girl Scout Leader.
She will be greatly missed by all whose life she touched.
Services will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 10, 2011, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Lacon. Father Tom Mizeur, Father Pat Fennell, Father Enderlin, Father Schmitt and Deacon Bob Murphy will officiate. Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 9, 2011, at Immaculate Conception Church. Burial will follow the services in St. Patrick's Cemetery in Camp Grove.
Lenz Memorial Home and Funeral Planning Services are in charge of the arrangements.
