Charles L. Baldwin - March 17, 1926 ‒ December 26, 2012 - Mount Vernon, Ohio - Charles L. Baldwin, age 85, of Westwood Drive, Mount Vernon, passed away on Wednesday, December 26, 2012 at the Laurels of Mount Vernon. He was born on March 17, 1926 in Mount Vernon to Christopher and Mary (Ridenour) Baldwin. Charles grew up on a farm in Green Valley with his four sisters, Doris Shuff, Anna Bartlett, Edith Thompson and Mary Ray. He graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1943. While attending high school, Charles met and fell in love with Charlotte Virginia (Wright). They were married on August 25, 1946. They were blessed with three children, Vicki Lee Conkle, Robert Baldwin and Stephen Baldwin. Charles continued working on the farm with his father until 1962 when he entered the insurance business with Don Endsley. The Insurance Agency later became the Charles L. Baldwin Insurance Agency. Upon retirement in 1992, Charles and Virginia continued living on Tucker Road in Mount Vernon. He was involved in community service in Knox County with the Elks Club, Moose Lodge, and the Lyons Club where he served as past president. Charles was also a member of the Green Valley United Methodist Church. He was an avid golfer (5 holes in one), and also enjoyed fishing and hunting. He loved to boat on Lake Erie with family and friends. The family considered Charles a master gardener and he would share the fruits of his labor with his clients at the insurance agency. He also enjoyed mowing his lawn and splitting firewood with his wife. “Chuck and Ginny” enjoyed sixty-six wonderful years together. They enjoyed their grandchildren, Kim Coe of Howard, Keith Conkle of Huntington, W.V., Aaron Baldwin of Phoenix, AZ; and great grandchildren Cara Conkle and Linsey Conkle. Also surviving are his sisters Anna Bartlett and Edith Thompson; sister-in-law Bette Stull; and many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Charles was preceded in death by his son Stephen and his daughter Vicki and sisters Doris and Mary. Friends may call on Thursday, January 3, 2013 from 5-7PM at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home. A service will be held on Friday, at the funeral home, beginning at 11AM with Rev. Jerry Bell officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to: Alzheimer’s Association or the American Heart Association. The Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Charles L. Baldwin.
