Mr. John Atkins, a young carpenter from Virginia, stole Miss Mary Amon from the parental roof last week and fled to Jelico, Tenn., where he made her his wife. The bride was a pupil in the Female College here and though young, but 14, is very large for her age. Her father was the maddest man Friday when he found out how he had been outwitted but it is to be hoped that he has cooled off by this time and said "come to me arms me children."

Mrs. John G. Atkins died at her home near Rowland yesterday of Strangulated Umbilical Hernia after a brief illnes. Mrs. Atkins was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Amon and was a most excellent christian woman. She was a devout member of the Baptist church, an affectionate wife and tender, loving mother. The husband and children have much sympathy in their great loss. Rev. J. W. Hagin will preach the funeral at 3 P. M. to-day, after which the remains will be laid to rest in Buffalo Cemetery. Dr. J. A. Amon and wife, of Garrard, are here to attend the burial.
