Sophia Rio Morabito, wife of Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer Rocco Morabito, died of a brain aneurysm Monday, October 16. She was 80.
Mrs. Morabito was a lifelong Jacksonville resident and retired from Southern Bell Telephone Company. She also was a member of the volunteer auxiliary at St. Vincent's Medical Center. "She didn't ever meet a stranger," said her husband of 45 years, Rocco Morabito, who was a Jacksonville Journal photographer when he won his Pulitzer.
Mrs. Morabito is also survived by daughters Tina Frady and Anne Morabito and brothers Vincent J. Rio Jr., Vernon Rio and James Doyle Rio. All live in Jacksonville. A mass will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Jacksonville. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Hardage-Giddens Funeral.
