At his death he was survived by his wife Ina Gurtner, and children Dr. Robert Forney of Indianapolis, Paul Forney of Evansville, Indiana, and Ralph Forney of Terre Haute, Indiana.
He was a leading educator and school administrator in the State of Indiana. He graduated from Indiana University with a Bachelor of Science Degree and held a Master's degree from Columbia University of New York.
He served as a teacher in his rural area of Franklin county at Asgkey, Indiana, and served as Superintendent of schools in Ashley for four years, and similar positions at Butler and Waterloo, both in Indiana. He came to Wiley High School from a superintendency at Alexandria, Indiana.
1908 - 1911 He and his wife were teachers in the Philippine Islands.
1927 - 1950 Principal of Wiley High School in Terre Haute Indiana.
