McLEANSBORO - Arthur ‘Good boy' Barker, 83, Dale, passed away 6:47 a.m. Tuesday, March 16, 2010, at Hamilton Memorial Hospital, McLeansboro.
Mr. Barker was a retired farmer.
He was born June 21, 1926, in Dale, a son of (David) Ira and Nellie (Ritcheson) Barker.
Arthur and his wife, Ruth (Counsil) Barker, were married May 6, 1962, in Shawneetown; she survives. He married Mary Lou Benbrook in 1949; she died in 1953.
His funeral was March 18, 2010, at Harre Funeral Home, McLeansboro, with the Rev. Robert Sefried officiating. Burial was at Digby Hill Cemetery, Dale.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Barker of Dale; two sons, Gary Barker and wife Dorothy of Cameron Park, Calif., and Greg Brenner and wife Julie of Dale; one daughter, Debbie Trout and husband Joe of McLeansboro; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Arthur loved to piddle, mow and tinker.
He was a 50-year member of Tuscan Lodge 630 A.F. & A.M. of Walpole.
He served in the U.S. Marines as a corporal during World War II.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife Mary Lou; a brother, Edward "Tex" Barker; half brothers Inman Wheeler and Johnny Wheeler; sisters Nona Barker Gannon and Lavern Barker Webb; half sisters Thelma Wheeler Baker and Wilma Rose Wheeler; and a granddaughter, Kathy Totten.
