Probably one of the saddest funerals ever was held in that or any other section of this country, was the one conducted at Gregoryville, Tuesday afternoon of this week, when nearly 1,000 people gathered at the old and familiar spot to pay their last respects to that fine young man, Ike D. Stamper, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. I. D. Stamper of that place.
This boy was born January 21st, 1914, and died May 12th, 1930 at such a young age in life. He met with an injury when a car driven by Bert James, in which 33 other children were riding, overturned at Cannonsburg last Sunday was a week, from which he died in the Grayson hospital. None of the other children were seriously injured.
This fine young man, known and loved by all of his associates, was a student in the high school at Grayson. Pall bearers at the funeral were six of his classmates, and the remainder of the 35 in number marched directly behind the casket. The funeral was conducted by Rev. Dever, of Grayson, in charge of Earl Holcomb, undertaker, of Grayson.
He leaves a father, mother, four brothers, Harlan, Everett, Arthur and Charley; one sister, Mrs. Walter Everman, of Portsmouth, Ohio, beside a host of relatives and friends. The remains was (sic) laid to rest in the Everman cemetery by the side of a brother who had passed away in 1924.
